Who we are

Intermission.design was born out of a belief that the objects in our homes should create space for pause, reflection, and beauty—without demanding attention. We make textile slipcovers for televisions that turn a screen into something quieter. Not hidden, not absent, just softened.

Founded by Charlotte and William McCusker, Intermission is shaped by years of design exploration across fashion, interiors, and publishing. Before moving to Spartanburg, South Carolina—a city with deep roots in American textile manufacturing—we lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY. There, we ran Rudas NY, a clothing line focused on garments for stillness and leisure. We called them idlewear. Our robes, including the denim sets we created for the Wythe Hotel, were cut and sewn in NYC from Cone Mills denim and other historic fabrics.

Charlotte’s experience in art book publishing and textiles honed a perspective grounded in visual culture, heritage textiles, and thoughtful storytelling. William brings a background in product strategy and a love for materials that age well.

Now in the former textile capital of the South, we're building a homegrown company rooted in craftsmanship and restraint. Intermission’s slipcovers are made with high-quality fabrics sourced for both durability and grace. Each one is designed to quietly integrate into your living space—whether it's a historic bungalow or a modern apartment—without asking your screen to disappear entirely.

This is not about hiding. It’s about softening.
It’s about choosing when to engage, and when to take an intermission.
